Heel Turn in Tango
The technique in this case is the same as for the normal Heel Turn described in the general principles, but there are some details that are different in Tango.
The Heel Turn in Tango has the following important technical aspects:
-
- the turn is made over the heel of the foot making the first step;
- the foot making the second step is closed without weight to the foot which made the first step and the weight is transferred only after the turn has been completed;
- after reaching the Centre Balance Position the back heel is lowered and the new Moving Leg moves towards the new Standing Leg. At the same time, the knee of the new Standing Leg will bend;
- the second step, for the partner moving forward, will start forward and finish placed to the side;
- there are not Rise and Fall involved in the Heel Turn in Tango;
- the Foot Action for the second step of Heel Turn is described as Heel-Ball, but Foot Action Ball happens only when the next step is taken;
- in order to lead the Heel Turn, the Rotation for Dynamic (with shoulders) must be used, when in Centre Balance Position (in this case Rotation for Dynamic is happening half step before then usual); the Rotation will be recovered by the hips in the second half of the step. The combination between this Rotation and the body weight transfer allows the partner dancing the Heel Turn to finish with the body weight directly over the Heel on the first step;
- sway is not used during the Heel Turn of Tango.
